Activities

Off-site Activities

Scouting is about being outdoors, learning new skills and about the world around us. This can’t all be done from inside our HQ buildings, and it is a must that we get outside. However, it is essential that we ensure safety is at the forefront of any activities we do.

Running Activities

The Scouts website has a whole host of information, guidance, and advice available, and we have put some useful links to these in the sidebar. These should be understood and followed at all times, without exception, whether within our HQ’s or off site. Regular updates are also issued by HQ therefore regular checking of the guidance is important to ensure you are up to date with the most current guidance.

When we do head outside of our normal meeting places, whether climbing, bowling, or going the local park, your District Sectional Lead Volunteer (DSLV) must be informed. This can be done in one of two ways:

  • By emailing activities@liverpoolnorthdistrict.org.uk providing the following information:
    • Group and Section names
    • Name of leader in charge
    • Approximate numbers from each section
    • Date and time of the proposed activity
    • Location of the proposed activity including venue details, address, and phone number where relevant
    • Any activities requiring permits, and permit holder details
    • InTouch details and procedures
    • Confirmation of the following:
      • You have you read the relevant POR section and confirm that authorised person(s) are attending
      • A Risk Assessment has been completed
      • The Risk Assessment(s) have been shared with the leadership team
      • The Risk Assessment(s) have been shared with, and understood by all attendees, both adults and young people
      • The GSL/DESC is aware of the activity taking place

  • Using the link in the sidebar to complete the online form.

By submitting this form, you will automatically notify the relevant District Section Lead Volunteer (DSLV) as follows:

Beavers                                           Dan Sedgwick

Cubs                                                Ben Dale

Scouts                                             John Dean

Young Leaders and Explorers      Vicky Quixley

Any forms submitted via email to the above address will also be received by those named above.

Adventurous Activity Permits

This internal assessment scheme is designed to ensure that all those leading adventurous activities for young people within Scouting have the skills, experience and personal suitability to do so.

The Adventurous Activity Permit Scheme is an internal assessment scheme designed to ensure that all those leading adventurous activities for young people within Scouting have the skills, experience, and personal suitability to do so.

Where an activity calls for an Adventurous Activity Permit, it is the leader in charge’s responsibility to ensure a holder of the relevant adventurous activity is available to run the activity.

Within Liverpool North we have several qualified leaders for various activities and hold regular, affordable, activity days for all our members. Head over to our Adventure page for more information.

Remember, If you do not hold a suitable Adventurous Activity Permit, you are not allowed to run the activity which this is relevant to. This applies to expired permits as well.

More information on how to obtain a Nights Away Permit can be found on the Scouts website adventure@liverpoolnorthdistrict.org.uk.

Risk Assessments

As with all activities, a written Risk Assessment must be produced and shared with all participants. This must also be shared with the relevant Commissioner or District Section Lead Volunteer. These can be email to the District activity email address as noted above.

Please be aware, if any Leader runs any permitted activity or experience with either No Permit or an Expired permit, or Fails to Inform the DC or appropriate DSLV re an offsite activity or experience, or does not undertake a suitable Event Specific Risk Assessment, this may lead them to having their appointment suspended. If any incidents occur, this may lead to the Scout Association not supporting the leader.
